There are four main factions in The Ember Conflict. These are the Empire, the Dawn, the Rise, and the Floics. All three factions are equally available without restriction to use in an army. Training and Special Missions may utilize units exclusively from one faction, though there is plenty of variability. In the world of the Ember Isles although xenophobia and racism might exist in places or from time to time, in general the peoples and units will mix.

Main Factions[]

The Empire[]

These are the units and people who are loyal to the Queen. In general, these are the Shield Guard and his specializations (Phalanx and Zweihander), the Puglings, the Ranger and her specializations (Longbow and Repeater) and the Horseman and his specializations (Heavy Cavalry and Cantabrian).

The Empire is under siege in multiple directions right now. While it is a wealthy country it is surrounded on all sides by threats. The hashashin Brotherhood to the south is constantly working to infiltrate and capture valuable locations. In the Northeast the Rise recently signed a treaty with the Empire, but not everyone is happy about that. And closer to home on the North Island of the Ember Isles itself possibly the greatest threat of all comes from House Dawn, a former member of the Imperial Court, which is now executing an increasing amount of military strikes on the Empire.

The Dawn[]

House Dawn is a former powerhouse family from the Imperial Court. For reasons as yet unknown, they seceded not only from the Court but from the Empire itself. They have set up a military colony on the North Island of the Ember Isles and are constantly threatening the Empire with raids, military strikes, and an ever-increasing buildup of forces. In addition, the Dawn have proven to be resourceful researchers of military technology.

The Rise are a people with a more primitive lifestyle. At a glance they might be confused for being mere barbarians, but their units and their diplomacy prove otherwise. They have a strong affinity for the native creatures of the Ember Isles. Though the Rise are more or less unified, occasionally factions will rebel and call a blood feud against another faction, family, or other group. The Rise units are the Soul Ancient and his specializations (Berserker and Lord of War), the Prideborn, and the Siege Beasts.

The Floics[]

The Floics are a mysterious race scattered around the Ember Isles. They live a tribal lifestyle and all of the Floics from a given region tend to be of the same type in occupation. The Floics include the Hashashin, the Spitter, and the Doctor.

Several Floic sub-factions exist. For instance, the Brotherhood, comprised of the hashashin from Thanatos Desert, have been known to infiltrate and seize key Imperial points. The Spitters have also been known to incite peasant uprisings.

Several minor factions are mentioned in Special Missions or elsewhere in the lore.
